Cincinnati United Soccer Club Position on High School Soccer

The article "
Some Skipping High School Sports" (Nov. 9), failed to adequately represent the views of the responsible soccer community in Cincinnati which does not support skipping high school participation.

Indeed Cincinnati United Premier has sent more local players to national and local colleges over the past years than any other local club. The Cincinnati United Premier and most other responsible clubs encourage their players to enjoy the unique high school experience as the social and educational opportunities far exceed the benefit of club soccer played in the fall when the college coaches are involved in their own seasons.

Effective college soccer recruiting begins in the fall, after the high school season, and continues through the summer. Parents, please encourage your children to play for their school. Those memories cannot be duplicated nor replaced and your children will have ample opportunity to be recruited. Question the motives of those who seek to deprive your children of the lessons learned in high school, the most formative years of their lives.

Bill Posey
Chairman of the Board

CUP Crew Juniors Boys and Girls Train at Crew Stadium with Crew Staff

CUP Girls Training at Crew StadiumThe CUP Boys and Girls travelled to Columbus on Sunday, October 26th and had the wonderful privilege of training on the field at Crew Stadium with the Crew Staff and Players, lead by Crew Technical Director, Brian Bliss. It was a wonderful additon to the Fall season with a day full of life-long memories of training in one of our country’s greatest soccer only facilities. The day began with the girls getting a twenty minute tour of the locker room and an overview of what the player’s go through the day of a game. This was followed by a 90-minute training session lead by Crew players and coaches on the game field.

CUP Girls Tour Crew Locker RoomBrian Page, CUP Girls Director of Coaching, proudly stated, “I have been asked how the CUP girls have benefited from our Crew relationship. The pictures of the experiences they have had today with the Crew coaches and players in Crew Stadium capture these benefits and reflect the lifelong memories and incredible soccer experiences they have had and will continue to have."

CUP Boys Training at Crew StadiumThe boys then took the field for a 90-minute session of their own working on both technical and tactical skills with the Crew staff and players. "It was a great session... That was awesome... This is incredible... We are on a professional field!" were just some of the comments heard from players throughout the special day. After the sessions, the players had to clear the stadium, so things could be prepared for the final match of the MLS regular season as the Crew hosted DC United on Crew Juniors Appreciation Night. The players and parents got in some tailgating and enjoyed the great entertainment that surrounds a Crew match prior to kickoff. A 1-0 Crew victory in front of 20,000 fans put an exclamation mark on the day, as the Crew wrapped up their season with the league’s best record and set their sights on the MLS Championship.

CUP Boys Get Tips from Crew Staff"This is an incredible day and a real treat for our CUP boys and their families to get to train in a professional facility and get exposure to these coaches and players. This is just one of the many benefits to being part of our Club and to our partnership with the Columbus Crew. It's just great for our kids," stated John McGinlay, CUP Boys Director of Coaching.
